Baseball Recap: United Takes a Loss

After flying high against Nixon on Thursday, United came back down to earth. The Longhorns fell just short of the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The Longhorns haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

United got a good showing from Alonso Barbarena, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, United saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edgar Benavides, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

United's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. United will be taking part in a tournament against San Angelo Central at 11:15 a.m. on Friday. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, they will square off against Nixon at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
