Basketball Recap: Southwest Dekalb's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Southwest DeKalb waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 61-45 victory over the St. Pius X Catholic Golden Lions. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-50 back in December of 2024.

Southwest DeKalb's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Messiah Mergan, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Mergan is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Aaron Burks, who went 7 of 10 en route to 17 points.

Southwest DeKalb pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for St. Pius X Catholic, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6.

Southwest DeKalb has already played their next game, a 66-35 win against Druid Hills on the 31st. As for St. Pius X Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 96-40 victory against Clarkston on the 31st.
