Basketball Preview: St. Henry Redskins vs. St. John's Bluejays
The St. Henry Redskins and the St. John's Bluejays will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with St. Henry sitting on 13 straight victories and the Bluejays on eight.
St. Henry scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 80-56 margin over Celina. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Evan Bowers was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for nine straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Bergman, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. John's can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They blew past Lincolnview 65-35 at home. Given St. John's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while the Lancers are ranked 617th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Henry pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for St. John's, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.
St. Henry skirted past the Bluejays 53-51 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will St. Henry repeat their success, or do the Bluejays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
