Football Game Preview: Clinton Comets vs. Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks

The Clinton Comets will head out on the road to face off against the Morrisville-Eaton Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Clinton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Clinton turned things around against Tupper Lake last Friday. They were the clear victors by a 52-28 margin over the Lumberjacks. The Comets not only won last Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 12, 2024 (when they won 42-14).

Meanwhile, Morrisville-Eaton put their dominant defense on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Thousand Islands a 66-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won four matchups by 44 points or more so far this season.

Clinton better keep an eye on Wesley Dimperio. He was instrumental in Morrisville-Eaton's win, rushing for 100 yards and two scores on only seven carries. Dimperio is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Marland, who rushed for 61 yards and one touchdown on only five carries.

Morrisville-Eaton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 380 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 166 rushing yards in five consecutive games.

Morrisville-Eaton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Landen Highers, Noah Mudge, and Jake Jones picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Thousand Islands' side was Gavin Baker, who picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Clinton's record is now 2-4. As for Morrisville-Eaton, their record now sits at 5-2.

Clinton was dealt a bruising 72-10 defeat at the hands of Morrisville-Eaton in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
