Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. El Camino Wildcats

For the second straight game, Mt. Carmel will face off against El Camino. The Sundevils will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Mt. Carmel's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so El Camino's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Mt. Carmel will face El Camino after dropping another heartbreaker against El Camino on Thursday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Sundevils came up short against the Wildcats, falling 10-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Sundevils, who until this match were averaging 3.13 runs allowed.

For El Camino's part, Ethan Stelzer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over 5.1 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Stelzer a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Isaiah Saldivar was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Nate Paopao was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

El Camino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Carmel only posted a batting average of .185.

El Camino's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-11. As for Mt. Carmel, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.
