Softball Game Preview: Poly Parrots vs. Bell Gardens Lancers

The Poly Parrots will square off against the Bell Gardens Lancers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with five losses in a row dating back to last season, Poly turned things around against Eagle Rock on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Eagles.

The team relied heavily on EVANY GALAVIZ, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of JAZLYN GALLARDO, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, Bell Gardens came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Grizzlies 10-1. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Bell Gardens let Breanna Garay and Alexa Jimenez run wild. Garay scored two runs while going 4-for-4, while Jimenez scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those four hits gave Garay a new career-high. Nayeli Gomez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

Poly's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Bell Gardens, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Poly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Bell Gardens struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
