Preview: Smiths Station Panthers vs. Percy Julian Phoenix
Smiths Station has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Percy Julian Phoenix at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Smiths Station will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Percy Julian is ranked 44th).
Last Friday, Smiths Station beat JAG 16-8. The win was just what Smiths Station needed coming off of a 42-14 loss in their prior game.
Quenton Brooks was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 169 yards and two touchdowns. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, even though Prattville scored an imposing 35 points on Friday, Percy Julian still came out on top. Percy Julian secured a 39-35 W over Prattville. The win was just what Percy Julian needed coming off of a 35-6 loss in their prior match.
Smiths Station's win bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Percy Julian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season.
Smiths Station came up short against Percy Julian when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 22-17. Can Smiths Station avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
