Basketball Recap: Walnut Ridge Piles Up the Points Against Briggs

A well-balanced attack led Walnut Ridge over Briggs in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Walnut Ridge Scots blew the Briggs Bruins out of the water with an 89-54 final score. The Scots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 32 points or more this season.

Walnut Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marquis Lucas, who went 7 of 13 en route to 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That's the most boards Lucas has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahleel Wakeel, who went 9 for 11 on his way to 20 points.

The win was the sixth in a row for Walnut Ridge, bringing their record for this year to 11-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.0 points per game. As for Briggs, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Walnut Ridge will take on Eastmoor Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Walnut Ridge has won three straight at home, while Eastmoor Academy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Briggs, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 63-53 defeat against Canal Winchester on the 18th.
