Soccer Game Preview: Upland vs. Damien

The Upland Highlanders/Scots are taking a road trip to square off against the Damien Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Upland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.8 goals per game this season.

Upland is headed into Wednesday's matchup hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Highlanders/Scots came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Cougars are ranked 131st).

Upland's goal came courtesy of Kenert Munoz, which was the first he's scored this season.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Damien was not quite Etiwanda's equal in the second half on Friday. They lost 3-0 to the Eagles. The Spartans have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Damien's loss dropped their record down to 7-10-2. As for Upland, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3-1.

Upland took their victory against Damien in their previous meeting on January 10th by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Upland since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
