Basketball Recap: Jared Haskiell Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat GVCS Broadfording

Southern had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 79-61 victory over the GVCS Broadfording Lions on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rams also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Southern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jared Haskiell, who went 10-for-16 on his way to 27 points and five assists. Haskiell has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brayden Upole, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine assists.

Haskiell wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Southern was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They racked up six more assists than GVCS Broadfording's also-impressive total of 15.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Cartwright, who went 6-for-10 en route to 13 points and four steals. Kelvin Koontz also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Southern's victory bumped their record up to 12-10. As for GVCS Broadfording, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-8 record.

As of now, neither Southern nor GVCS Broadfording have any future games scheduled.
