Hueneme is 0-10 against Santa Paula since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hueneme is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Nordhoff on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-6 win. With that victory, the Vikings brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Jaucelynn Ayala made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Delilah Pereyra was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roxanna Silva, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Hueneme was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Santa Paula never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Channel Islands with a sharp 19-0 win. That 19 run margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.
Ayla Rodriguez tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abby Ibarra, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-4. Mia Cardenas was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Santa Paula's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Hueneme, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hueneme has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Santa Paula struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hueneme might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Santa Paula in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
