Basketball Game Preview: Cortland Purple Tigers vs. Solvay Bearcats

The Cortland Purple Tigers will head out to square off against the Solvay Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cortland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.

If Solvay heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Cortland took over last week. Cortland enjoyed a cozy 60-46 victory over Mexico on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Purple Tigers.

Jaxson Gambitta was a one-man wrecking crew for Cortland as he dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Gambitta a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Johnson, who posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Solvay was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 57-53 to Homer. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Cortland's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Solvay, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Cortland came out on top in a nail-biter against Solvay when the teams last played back in January of 2024, sneaking past 51-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cortland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
