Basketball Preview: Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds vs. St. Mary's Gaels
The Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds will head out on the road to take on the St. Mary's Gaels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kellenberg Memorial is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Kellenberg Memorial came up short against the Friars and fell 54-42. The loss was Kellenberg Memorial's first of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's pushed their score all the way to 65 last Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Anthony's. While losing is never fun, St. Mary's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Friars are ranked 137th).
Kellenberg Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 3-1. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Everything went Kellenberg Memorial's way against the Gaels in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the Firebirds made off with a 77-54 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kellenberg Memorial since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
