Softball Recap: Cardinal Mooney Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Cardinal Mooney waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Braden River Pirates as they made off with an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Erin Sugg was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Cardinal Mooney let Kaitlyn Will and Olivia Lockhart run wild. Will went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Lockhart went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Will a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michele Will, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Cardinal Mooney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Braden River only posted an OBP of .190.

Cardinal Mooney pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Braden River, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season.

As of now, neither Cardinal Mooney nor Braden River have any future games scheduled.
