Basketball Recap: Hurley Comes Up Short

After flying high against Holston on Thursday, Hurley came back down to earth. The Hurley Rebels were beaten by the Grundy Golden Wave 65-35 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Wave this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 49-32 back in January.

Hurley's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Grundy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Hurley and Grundy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Hurley will take on Phelps at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday down 196 places (347 vs. 151). Meanwhile, Grundy (ranked 248th) will meet Honaker (ranked 56th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
