Basketball Recap: Cienega Takes a Loss

Cienega had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it five. They had to suffer through a 48-19 loss at the hands of the Cactus Shadows Falcons. The Bobcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Cienega's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amaya Woolford, who posted six points and six blocks. Isabel Elisea was another key player, putting up six points.

As for Cactus Shadows, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Cactus Shadows got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karease Broeker out in front who went 6-for-13 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jacelyn Cathey, who shot 45% from the field en route to 11 points along with five assists and four steals.

Cienega has already played their next contest, a 31-16 victory against Florence on the 29th. As for Cactus Shadows, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 44-2 win against Desert Edge on the 29th.
