Baseball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Boothbay Seahawks

Dirigo is 8-2 against Boothbay since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will challenge the Seahawks at 4:00 p.m. Boothbay took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Dirigo, who comes in off a win.

Dirigo took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Oak Hill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Raiders on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Trevor Crosby made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Crosby was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Crosby wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Leighton Waite, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Boothbay was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Mount View, falling 16-6.

Sam Markowitz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Boothbay's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 2-7 when he doesn't). Tyson French also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Boothbay's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Dirigo, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Dirigo skirted past Boothbay 4-2 when the teams last played on May 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
