Basketball Game Preview: Antietam Mountaineers vs. Halifax Wildcats

Antietam and Halifax are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Antietam Mountaineers are taking a road trip to square off against the Halifax Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Antietam is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Trinity on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Antietam had to suffer through a 92-55 loss at the hands of Trinity. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 360th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 91st).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was AJ Scheifley, who posted 23 points. That's the most points he has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Josiah Maradey, who put up five points.

Meanwhile, Halifax lost to Lancaster Mennonite on the road by a 52-37 margin on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Blazers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Halifax's defeat dropped their record down to 22-4. As for Antietam, their loss dropped their record down to 14-10.

Antietam couldn't quite finish off Halifax in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 49-47. Can Antietam avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
