Softball Recap: North Greene Victorious

North Greene took a 16-run loss the last time they faced off against New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Spartans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vipers on Saturday, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 9th.

North Greene let Chelsey Castleberry and Eva Schenck run wild. Castleberry went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Schenck went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Those three hits gave Schenck a new career-high. Lynley Rollins was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.

North Greene's record is now 7-14. As for New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Greene will host Calhoun at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
