Basketball Recap: Johnsburg Central Takes a Loss

If Johnsburg Central was feeling good fresh off their 58-31 takedown of Sharon Springs Central last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Johnsburg Central Jaguars took a blow against the Wells Wells CSD on Tuesday, falling 81-48. The Jaguars were down 72-37 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Johnsburg Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nick Sauer-Jones dropped a double-double on 22 points and 22 rebounds. Sauer-Jones has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more boards the last four times he's played.

Chase Brooks was his usual excellent self, going 20 of 35 on his way to 48 points and three blocks for Wells. That's the most blocks Brooks has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Passmore, who dropped a triple-double on 11 boards, 17 assists, and ten steals.

Johnsburg Central now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Wells, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnsburg Central will face off against Chazy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Wells, they will challenge Indian Lake Central at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Wells' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.
