Baseball Game Preview: Lake Flyers vs. Start Spartans

The Lake Flyers will venture away from home to challenge the Start Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Start's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Things were looking good for Lake after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Oak Harbor by a score of 4-3. The match marked the Flyers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, Start got the win against Cardinal Stritch on Monday by a conclusive 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.

Bryce Creecy was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joe Buck, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Daniel Brownfield also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Start and bumps their season record up to 3-3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Lake took their victory against Start in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 20-2 score. Will the Flyers repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
