Basketball Recap: Landrum Takes a Loss

Landrum lost against High Point Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The contest between the Landrum Cardinals and the High Point Academy Grizzlies didn't end well, with the Landrum Cardinals falling 88-73. The Cardinals were down 73-42 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Landrum lost, don't look at Benett Edwards. Despite the final result, he went 10-for-14 to rack up 25 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Edwards is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Tidwell, who went 6-for-14 en route to 19 points.

Even though they lost, Landrum smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

High Point Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chonci Miller out in front who went 10-for-12 on his way to 23 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-high in assists (four). J'Sean Sanders was another key player, dropping a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds.

Landrum's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for High Point Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-3.

Landrum wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-40 victory against Greenville Tech Charter on the 13th. High Point Academy has also already played their next contest (against Blacksburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
