Football Recap: Sarasota Comes Up Short

Sarasota extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-5. They were outmatched by the Venice Indians and fell 51-14. The Sailors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-8.

When it comes to explaining why Sarasota lost, don't look at Jayden Rivers. Despite the final result, he picked up 186 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Hudson West also helped out by tossing the rock for 312 yards.

As for Venice, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 39.4 points over those games.

Venice's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyree Mannings, who picked up 140 receiving yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Mannings posted two receiving touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September. Another player making a difference was Darryon Jones, who threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.

Looking ahead, Sarasota will square off against Parrish Community at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulls' defense has only allowed 10.1 points per game this season, so the Sailors' offense will have their work cut out for them. Venice does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
