Softball Game Preview: Lane Tech Champions vs. Niles West Wolves

Lane Tech is 9-1 against Niles West since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Champions will head out on the road to challenge the Wolves at 4:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lane Tech has three straight victories, Niles West has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lane Tech's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against DePaul College Prep as they made off with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Champions, who have now won five games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Grace Brobson was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Amya Cordero also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Lane Tech was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, in Saturday's Canine Competition, Niles West had to take the L. They came up short against Hersey on Saturday, falling 10-2. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by exactly eight runs.

Niles West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lexi Kuffel, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Ava Kolbe was another, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Niles West's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Lane Tech, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Everything went Lane Tech's way against Niles West when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Lane Tech made off with a 13-2 victory. Do the Champions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
