Soccer Game Preview: Gate City vs. John Battle

The Gate City Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the John Battle Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Gate City is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to nine goals last Thursday, they were much more limited against Abingdon on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Falcons. The loss was Gate City's first of the season.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last contest, John Battle made sure to put some goals up on the board against Ridgeview on Friday. They blew past the Wolfpack 6-0. The result was nothing new for John Battle, who have now won three matchups by four goals or more so far this season.

John Battle is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 15 goals over those four contests. Having lost for the first time this season, Gate City fell to 7-1-2.

Gate City beat John Battle by a goal when the teams last played back in March, winning 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
