Baseball Game Preview: Southwest SD Raiders vs. Lincoln Hornets

Southwest SD and Lincoln are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Raiders will square off against the Hornets at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest SD is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Southwest SD turned things around against Kearny on Wednesday. They blew past the Komets 15-7. The Raiders not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th.

Anthony Bejarano was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

In other batting news, Southwest SD let Elijah Lewis and Johan Colmenares run wild. Lewis scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Colmenares scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Colmenares has become a key player for Southwest SD: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ezekiel Legorreta, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

Southwest SD kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Lincoln unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 11-6 to Castle Park.

Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Southwest SD, their record now sits at 8-6-1.

Southwest SD suffered a grim 17-4 defeat to Lincoln in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
