Basketball Recap: Burns Comes Up Short

Burns was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss. The contest between them and the Newcastle Dogies didn't end well, with the Burns Broncs falling 58-42. The Broncs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dogies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Burns lost, don't look at Josie Barrett. Despite the final result, she went 10-for-23 to rack up 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Those 25 points gave Barrett a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Burns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newcastle only pulled down four offensive boards.

Newcastle found their leader in sophomore Kyndal Von eye, who went 8-for-11 from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for Von eye. Adalyn Olson was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine assists and three steals.

Burns' loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Newcastle, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-11.

Burns didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 32-17 victory against Guernsey-Sunrise on the 11th. As for Newcastle, they have also already played their next game, a 78-14 defeat against Douglas on the 8th.
