Basketball Recap: Willow Spring's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Willow Spring waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Corinth Holders Pirates 71-49. Given the Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Pirates are ranked 533rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willow Spring's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grant Overman led the charge by dropping a triple-double on 11 points, ten boards, and ten blocks. That's the most blocks Overman has posted since back in January of 2024. Brady Williams was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Willow Spring was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corinth Holders only posted nine assists.

Corinth Holders' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Hemby, who went 6 of 8 en route to 12 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Holder, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Willow Spring has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Corinth Holders, their defeat was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-14.

Willow Spring won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Garner at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Garner knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Willow Spring likes a good challenge. As for Corinth Holders, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against Southeast Raleigh at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
