Preview: South Windsor Bobcats vs. Avon Falcons
The South Windsor Bobcats will head out on the road to face off against the Avon Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of five wins, South Windsor's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Platt by a score of 21-19. Despite 117 more yards than Platt, South Windsor couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mitch Chaves, who rushed for 15 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 228 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Joey Bemis, who picked up 143 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 6-6 at halftime, Avon was not quite Rocky Hill's equal in the second half on Friday. Avon suffered a tough 28-6 loss at the hands of Rocky Hill.
South Windsor's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Avon, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: South Windsor has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 189.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been even better at 259.7 per game. It's looking like Thursday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
