Baseball Game Preview: Geneva Panthers vs. Newark Reds

The Geneva Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Newark Reds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Geneva is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

While Geneva didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Penn Yan Academy 14-2 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Dylan Weisner made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ben Santos, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Dorrington, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Newark hadn't beaten Dansville on the road since April 22, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Reds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Mustangs. That's two games straight that the Reds have won by exactly two runs.

Geneva's record now sits at 7-2. As for Newark, their record is now 6-7.

Everything went Geneva's way against Newark when the teams last played back in April, as Geneva made off with a 12-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
