Baseball Game Preview: Jackson Jaguars vs. Villa Rica Wildcats

Jackson hasn't had much luck against Villa Rica recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Jaguars take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Jackson took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 14-5 margin over Southwest DeKalb. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Thornton Wilder looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Jackson is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jackson let Pearce Henry and Tyler Dunn run wild. Henry scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Dunn scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Henry also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Seth Geter was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Jackson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Villa Rica waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 4-2.

Villa Rica pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.25 runs across that stretch. As for Jackson, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
