The Unionville Longhorns will challenge the East Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Unionville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Unionville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Oxford with a sharp 9-0 victory. The game was the first time the Longhorns have beaten the Hornets on their field since May 7, 2021.
Peyton Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She also put up four hits, which were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Smith, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Lily Daniels was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, East posted their closest win since May 11, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past Avon Grove 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.
Like Unionville, East also got a great game from a two-way player: Ferri Ava. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits. Ava was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Mia Picciotti was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caelyn Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Unionville pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for East, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Unionville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Unionville suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to East in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Longhorns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
