Baseball Recap: First Baptist Academy Comes Up Short

First Baptist Academy dropped to 4-2 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the South Fort Myers Wolfpack by a score of 11-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Lions, who until this matchup were averaging four runs allowed.

First Baptist Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Hedlund, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Another was Jack Sturdevant, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for South Fort Myers, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games.

On South Fort Myers' side, Chase Grubb tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, David Acevedo was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Owen Kircher was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, First Baptist Academy will head out to challenge Naples at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Fort Myers, they will be playing at home against Sarasota at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sailors' pitching crew has only allowed 1.4 runs per game this season, so the Wolfpack's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
