Basketball Recap: Winston County Takes a Loss

If Winston County was riding high fresh off their 71-28 takedown of Lynn last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Winston County Yellowjackets were beaten by the Cold Springs Eagles 67-33 on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Winston County lost, don't look at Lynleigh Cobb. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. Cobb is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Veal, who had three points.

Even though they lost, Winston County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 27 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Ella Dickerson was her usual excellent self, going 12 of 23 on her way to 33 points and eight rebounds for Cold Springs. The team also got some help courtesy of Paizley Whitlow, who put up five points along with five boards and three steals.

Winston County's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3. As for Cold Springs, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

Winston County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-37 win against Meek on the 9th. As for Cold Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 68-40 victory against Falkville on the 9th.
