Baseball Game Preview: Central Magnet vs. Washburn Pirates

Central Magnet are taking a road trip to challenge the Washburn Pirates at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Central Magnet managed to slip by Tullahoma the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Central Magnet lost 15-0 to Tullahoma on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Washburn made easy work of Cosby on Tuesday and carried off a 23-5 victory. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Matthew Harville was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Riley Munsey was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Washburn is 4-1 when Munsey posts two or more runs, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Landry Coffey was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Washburn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cosby only posted an OBP of .423.

Washburn pushed their record up to 8-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Central Magnet, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
