Recap: Trenton Tigers vs. Lafayette Hornets

Make it 11 blowout wins for the Trenton Tigers this season. They put the hurt on Lafayette with a sharp 54-32 win on Thursday. Given Trenton's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while Lafayette is ranked 251st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trenton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nyima Gillyard, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Gillyard is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Kayley Sloan was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.

Trenton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Lafayette, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Trenton will face off against Dixie County at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Dixie County will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. As for Lafayette, they will head out on the road to challenge Aucilla Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Aucilla Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Monday.
