Softball Recap: Greenville Extends Home Winning Streak to Seven

There's no place like home for Greenville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Carlinville Cavaliers 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Comets have posted since April 11th.

Payton White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Bingham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Anna Turner also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Greenville pushed their record up to 17-5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Carlinville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

Greenville and Carlinville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Comets will face off against Litchfield at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (145 vs. 364). Meanwhile, Carlinville (ranked 166th) will meet Hillsboro (ranked 366th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
