Basketball Game Preview: Richland Northeast Cavaliers vs. South Pointe Stallions

Richland Northeast and South Pointe are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Richland Northeast Cavaliers will welcome the South Pointe Stallions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Richland Northeast: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while South Pointe has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Richland Northeast is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat York 68-23. With the Cavaliers ahead 36-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Meanwhile, South Pointe beat Ridge View 53-46 on Saturday. The 53-point effort marked the Stallions' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

South Pointe's win came from a few key players Richland Northeast will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kaleigh Lucas, who posted 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of JaNyia Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards.

South Pointe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

South Pointe's victory bumped their record up to 18-0. As for Richland Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Richland Northeast might still be hurting after the 60-36 loss they got from South Pointe in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Can Richland Northeast avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
