Recap: North Mustangs vs. Chandler Wolves
It was a good run, but the North Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 58-46 to Chandler. North has struggled against Chandler recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
North's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Xxylina Flores, who scored 21 points along with six steals, and Saniyah Downing who scored 15 points along with seven steals. Flores is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played.
North struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Chandler's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markayla Shirley, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That's the first time this season that Shirley scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Karis Hurd, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
North bumped their record down to 9-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Chandler, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Maryvale at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Maryvale focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Tuesday. Chandler won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Hamilton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
