Basketball Recap: Ubly's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

If Ubly was feeling good fresh off their 74-34 takedown of Carsonville-Port Sanilac last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ubly Bearcats came up short against the Deckerville Eagles on Friday, falling 78-56. The Bearcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Deckerville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hunter Garza, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 11 boards. Those 24 points gave Garza a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Shanks, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds.

The defeat snapped Ubly's winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 15-8 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points over those games. As for Deckerville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-10.

Ubly does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Deckerville, they will face off against Kingston at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deckerville has given up an average of 51 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
