Softball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Sundown's 19th in Last 21 Outings

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Sundown had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on the Haskell Indians with a sharp 14-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Roughnecks, who have now won 25 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Destiny Garza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Garza was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Nayleen Morin was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Emry Jourden was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Sundown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Sundown is on a roll lately: they've won 19 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 30-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Haskell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-8.

Looking ahead, Sundown will challenge Muenster on the 24th. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Roughnecks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Haskell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
