Softball Game Preview: Avoyelles Charter Vikings vs. Monterey Wolves

The Avoyelles Charter Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Monterey Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Avoyelles Charter's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

Avoyelles Charter was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Peabody on Monday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Warhorses with a sharp 12-1 win. Considering the Vikings have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Reagan Lacour and Janiya Heath made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lacour tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, Heath tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Lacour a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At the plate, Lacour scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Heath scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Rousseau, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Madalyn Guillory was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Monterey posted their closest victory since March 22, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Harrisonburg. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wolves as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Avoyelles Charter's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-15. As for Monterey, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 9-13.

Everything went Avoyelles Charter's way against Monterey in their previous meeting back in March, as Avoyelles Charter made off with a 10-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
