Basketball Recap: Ashley Find Success

There's no place like home for Ashley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 62-61 victory over the North Brunswick Scorpions. For the Screaming Eagle, this counts as revenge for the 67-57 win the Scorpions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Ashley had a senior duo take command as Nate Jarrell went 7 for 17 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds and Cole Lewis went 5 of 7 en route to 14 points and five boards. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Lewis. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Bentley, who posted seven points and six assists.

Kane Jenrette and Jack Baker certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Jenrette dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 boards, while Baker went 8 of 12 en route to 21 points and six rebounds. Jenrette has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 11 times he's played. Kylel Hansley also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Ashley's record now sits at 9-12. As for North Brunswick, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

When Ashley and North Brunswick next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Ashley will take on Hoggard and their nine-game winning streak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, North Brunswick will try to stop West Brunswick's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
