Basketball Recap: Ponderosa Comes Up Short

Ponderosa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 62-51 to the Marquez Gladiators.

Leading Marquez to victory were Julian Nunez and Elyjah Staples. Nunez went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 24 points and six rebounds, while Staples dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Staples is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Diego Velasquez was another key player, putting up nine points and six assists.

Ponderosa's defeat dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Marquez, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6-1.

Ponderosa wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-42 loss against Bellflower on the 28th. As for Marquez, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-37 win against Calvary Baptist on the 28th.
