Basketball Recap: Browne Takes a Loss

Browne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 72-39 loss at the hands of the Cesar Chavez Champions. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 234th, while the Champions are ranked 69th).

Browne's loss came despite strong showings from Tony Bayigamba and Karmello Walker. Bayigamba dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards, while Walker posted seven points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Bayigamba a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Adam Chaffin, who had two points and four blocks.

Cesar Chavez had a senior duo take command as Gabriel Briones shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds and Lex Clontz went 9 for 20 on his way to 25 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The contest was Briones' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Mj Woodberry also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first rebounds of the season.

Browne's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Cesar Chavez, their record now sits at 8-9.

Browne didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 76-54 win against South Mountain on the 22nd. As for Cesar Chavez, they are taking a road trip to square off against Boulder Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
