Basketball Recap: Herington Comes Up Short

Herington lost against Wabaunsee back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Herington Railroaders were beaten by the Wabaunsee Chargers 64-30. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Chargers are ranked 74th).

When it comes to explaining why Herington lost, don't look at Leslyn Kremeier. Despite the final result, she posted 16 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Herington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Herington has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. Wabaunsee is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4-1 record this season.

Herington and Hartford will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. Wabaunsee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
