Basketball Recap: Shaydyn Rasby's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ogallala over Bridgeport

It was a good run, but Ogallala unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a hard 57-41 fall against the Bridgeport Bulldogs. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 54-44.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shaydyn Rasby, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Rasby has posted since back in December of 2024. Laney Caskey was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Ogallala smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Bridgeport's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ella Schluterbusch, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 21 points and four steals. Schluterbusch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 12 games she's played. Samantha Hill also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Ogallala's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-9. As for Bridgeport, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-1.

Coming up, Ogallala will head out on the road to face off against Gothenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gothenburg will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Ogallala surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bridgeport, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Battle Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bridgeport's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
