Soccer Game Preview: Gretna East vs. Pius X

The Gretna East Griffins will face off against the Pius X Thunderbolts at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gretna East comes in on 19 and Pius X on five.

Gretna East is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 5-1 margin over Blair. Gretna East might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 games by three goals or more this season.

They hit Blair with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Sonora DeFini (3), Addison LaRock, and Kendall Dobberstein.

Meanwhile, Pius X faced Norris in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Thunderbolts never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. Pius X's defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last five matches.

Pius X's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Gretna East, their win bumped their record up to 19-0.

Gretna East was able to grind out a solid victory over Pius X in their previous matchup back in March, winning 3-1. Do the Griffins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbolts turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
