Basketball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Comes Up Short

Newman Grove/St. Edward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 54-43 to the High Plains Storm.

When it comes to explaining why Newman Grove/St. Edward lost, don't look at Kailey Patzel. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 39.5% of Newman Grove/St. Edward's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Allyx Forre was another key player, putting up five points and seven rebounds.

Leading High Plains to victory were Peyton Hofmann and Gahvrielle Lesiak. Hofmann went 8 of 17 on her way to 21 points and seven rebounds, while Lesiak had 13 points and seven assists. Hofmann continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney Carlstrom, who put up eight points and four steals.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 1-11. As for High Plains, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers take on the Osmond Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newman Grove/St. Edward is facing Osmond at the right time seeing as Osmond is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for High Plains, they will take on Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
