Baseball Game Preview: Van Horn Falcons vs. Platte County Pirates

The Van Horn Falcons will head out to challenge the Platte County Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Van Horn is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.

Van Horn came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Raytown by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since April 7th.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Platte County). They were the clear victors by a 25-3 margin over Ruskin on Thursday. The Pirates have beaten the Golden Eagles the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Golden Eagles has come to flipping the script.

Platte County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Van Horn, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

Van Horn suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Platte County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
